Use Your Handwriting Challenge - Crop Suey #10

Crop Suey's 10th challenge is up and as usually it's a GREAT one! You must create a project using as much handwriting as possible. Just to let you know - I am not a fan of my own handwriting and avoid it on my pages. But this one was so much fun. I knew that I wanted to do a Dina Wakley style and use lots of layers over my handwriting. So I just went to town and wrote lots of things that have been bothering me lately on my pattern paper. Then I cut them into squares or scalloped it. Then used some paint dabbers (white) on them to mellow out the text a bit then used some teal (2 shades) around the edges of the papers to unify them. All the papers were from my Kioshi BG kit of the month from my local scrapbooking store The Craft Nook in Bracebridge, ON.

Also got to use the ribbon (not sure if that is what BG calls it) on the squares and the pipe cleaner flower. Then I used that flower as my inspiration to create another one (purple) out of pipe cleaners and buttons. I also painted on some buttons to tie the colours all together.

The picture was taken with my laptop camera and then I applied an artistic filter on it and blurred the background with the smudge tool.

My title is handwritten and then I painted over it and cut it out. Lots of fun!

Make sure to play along as SRM Stickers is hosting this month and anyone who plays gets a chance to win some goodies!

Have a great weekend! We are having a yard sale tomorrow and all the money will go towards my son's fundraising for the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes. Can you believe it that to date we have raised $2400!!! I had a goal of $300 so I am pretty excited! To learn more about his walk or to read a bit about him on his diabetes blog please click here.

Thanks!

2 new pages

I have two pages to share with you today. The first one is a page I did of my friend Lisa and I. We met in January and email (almost every day!). Our sons are close in age and were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within a month of each other. It's so nice to have her in  my life as she just gets it. So this page was made using a kit that I had used to teach a class last year. Happy how it turned out.

The next page was a quicky. I wanted to play along at Scrap Tiffany and this week's challenge is to scraplift someones layout. I lifted Kerry Lynn Yeary's layout - 'Twue Wuv'. Used alot of BG Nook & Pantry Papers and a few scraps. This was a very fun layout to do. Of course when you're done you look at it and see things you would change but oh well - go with the flow!

Please check this out

Hello all my scrapping friends. I don't usually do this. But if you have a chance please check out this link. My son Parker was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a month after he turned 2. It has been a very rough road and he has been such a brave little man. He gets his sugar checked (finger poke) 8 times a day (sometimes more) and 4 needles a day. So in total he gets 12 pokes a day. He is a human pin cushion. He gives me such strenght as he is the strongest through this. On June 13th we are walking for him and I am raising some funds for the JDRF Walk to Cure diabetes. I don't expect donations from you. I would love it if you could share Parker's story as we do need to tell people that type 1 diabetes is VERY DIFFERENT from type 2. He is constantly getting the stigma that he got diabetes because he ate sweets and that he will outgrow it. He will NOT outgrow this and it was just bad luck that he developed it. It's tough as he does look healthy. But we deal with medical emergencies on a daily basis. Four times a day we as his parents make life threatening decisions about how much insulin to give him. It's not easy.

If you could share his story maybe as he gets older it will get easier for him and other little heroes to go on and try to live a normal life.

Thank you.
